How to Measure Windows for Curtains

You will need...

   Pencil
   Paper
   Tape measure

4 things to consider when measuring for curtains:

1. Where to install the curtain - Inside Mount (Top Fix) or Outside Mount (Face Fix)

2. Configuration - Left hand stack, Right hand stack, Centre opening, Centre opening with overlap

3. What type of Pleat design you would like - Pinch Pleat, Reverse Pleat or Wave Fold

4. If you have your own track or rod, Hook Height is relevant to your calculations

Outside Mount/Face Fix

Most curtains are installed on the outside of the window or door frame and the brackets positioned at the top of the architrave or above the architrave.

If installing above the architrave, ensure you have a solid surface (like solid timber) to screw into.

Measuring Width

Measure the exact width you would like the curtain to cover.

If you choose to include a track with your order, it will be the same as the curtain width.

If you have your own track:

> Provide the width of your track.

If you have your own rod:

> Provide the width of the rod between any end caps.

Important notes:

For best light reduction we recommend the curtain extend 150-200mm either side of the window or door opening.

Measuring Height/Drop for Pinch/Reverse Pleat

Measure and provide the exact height you would like the curtain to cover.

Note the track sits behind the curtain.

If you have your own track:

> Measure from the top of the track to where you want the curtain to hang to.

If you have your own rod:

> Measure from the bottom of the rings to where you want the curtain to hang to.

Important notes:

We recommend to allow a 15mm gap below the curtain if hung to the floor.

For a window, we recommend the curtain extend 150-200mm below the bottom of the window frame.

Measuring Height/Drop for Wave Fold

Measure and provide the exact height you would like the curtain to cover.

Note the Veneta track sits above the curtain by 20mm.

If you have your own track:

> Measure from the bottom of the runner rings to where you want the curtain to hang.

Inside Mount/Top Fix

Measuring for curtains mounted on the inside of the window or door frame or into the ceiling is nice and easy, just measure the width and height of the opening in 3 places and provide the shortest measurements.  We do the rest.

Important notes:

For Wave Fold curtains, note the top of the curtain sits below the track (20mm from top of track to top of fabric).

For Pinch and Reverse Pleat curtains the fabric is supplied approx 10mm shorter than the height entered.

Hook Height

The Hook Height is the measurement from the top of the track to the bottom of the rings (and generally the measurement from the top of the hook to the top of the fabric).

Veneta curtains are supplied with a hook height of 30mm (3cm) for Pinch and Reverse Pleat and 10mm (1cm) for Wave Fold.  Therefore the top of the fabric will sit approx 30mm above the bottom of the rings.

If you have your own track:

> Measure from the bottom of the runner rings to the top of the track.

If you have your own rod:

> Measure from the bottom of the small rings to the bottom of the rod and minus 5mm.

Important notes:

For Pinch Pleat curtains, we provide adjustable nylon hooks that can be set anywhere between 0 and 60mm (6cm). By default they are set to 30mm (3cm).

For Reverse Pleat curtains, if the hook height is larger or smaller than 30mm (3cm), add a note to your order (in the checkout) requesting the hook height you would like.

For Wave Fold, the fabric will sit 10mm (1cm) above the bottom of the rings.
