Curtains and Blinds for Sliding Doors

When considering window treatments for your sliding doors there are a couple of factors that will help you to determine which is the best; curtains or blinds. Before you consider the different types of curtains or blinds to use for your sliding doors, first consider the main reasons and needs for those curtains or blinds to cover your sliding doors. The most common factors include privacy and light control, as well as, temperature control and energy efficiency.

Most sliding doors consist of large panels of glass which is a great way to combine indoor and outdoor living. However, the main disadvantages of large glass panels in the home, is that they are essentially creating large holes which allows air and light to easily transfer in and out of the home. This means that uncovered glass windows and doors can cause up to 87% of heat gain in summer and lose up to 40% of a home’s heating energy in winter. Let’s now take a look at the different types of window treatments that work effectively with sliding doors and how they best combine the convenience of privacy, light control, temperature control and ease of use.

Vertical Blinds

Vertical Blinds, in particular Vertical Honeycomb Blinds are specifically designed for sliding doors. They offer a number of different configuration options that allow for a wide range of sliding doors to be covered. They are available in a left stack, right stack, centre opening, or centre stack. The Vertical Honeycomb Blind offers excellent insulation properties which is essential for large glass panels that usually allow cooling and heat to be easily transferred. The Honeycomb Blind cells trap air to create an airlock, this helps with energy savings and to keep your home warm in winter and cool in summer. The Vertical Honeycomb Blind can be made in either a light filter fabric or a blockout fabric or a Day & Night configuration that is available in two combinations; sheer and blockout fabric or sheer and light filter fabric.
